3 Comfy Outfits + Confessions From My Garage
Clothes can be an enormous challenge for new moms – especially me! They can make you frustrated and less confident, or, if you find the right ones, make you feel inspired and more like yourself. When I am feeling comfortable AND cute, that’s, for sure, the sweet spot.
WARNING: A lot of these pieces today came from American Eagle. I worked there part-time for about 6 years and LOVED it. I definitely spent no less than 100% of my paychecks on clothes at the store, and then continued to buy there after I left that position, (even without my employee discount…wah waaaaah). I did take a brief hiatus from shopping at AE when I was pregnant and LITERALLY EVERY TOP was cropped in that store. Like, what?! It was weird. Would’ve been a nice look, though. J/k. But I’m back in LOVE with their styles now, and it seems they’ve improved the comfort of the clothes AND made shirts long again – hallelujah!
These outfits are all super comfy, and almost all of the pieces are still out there for sale so I included links! That baby weight isn’t quite gone yet, and when pieces pinch or pull me, I get a little batty. I am a yoga pants and hoodie girl at heart. I usually despise real clothes. Hence, this confession from my garage. Oh man.
Since I had my babe in February, until about a month ago, I kept a pair of jeans in my garage (don’t worry, I washed them semi-regularly). I would put my kids in the car, buckle them in, and then run over and change into my “real” pants. Then I reversed this process when I got home. TRUTH. 😂😂😂
But now, I’m enjoying dipping my toe into the “normal-clothes” pond for longer stretches of time. I’ve made some purchases recently that are actually making me feel like a cooler mom (oh, the lies I tell myself…)
Okay, so here’s what we have today (nope, not sponsored!):
Daytime Look #1:
- Top:American Eagle Soft and Sexy Plush Tee – $26.21 (on clearance right now!)
- Pants: AE NE(X)T Level Jeggings in Midnight Blue – $49.95
- Boots: Muk Luk Hayden boots ($49 or $95 depending on if you get lucky on Zulilly!)
I recently did a COMPLETE boot/shoe upgrade and you can get all the deets on that HERE. These boots (my FAV this season), were purchased on Zulily for $49. They are available at Kohls ($95) AND Zulily now (much cheaper on Zulily, clearly), but neither have the gray color in stock! Sad!!! They are impressively comfortable, and look great with jeggings since they are wider at the calf! Oh and BTW, I bought 4 of these shirts, as you can see, because they are insanely comfy and the fit is forgiving!!! Also, I cannot resist a great baseball style shirt. Ahhhh – they are seriously, again I say it, so comfy.
Next, we have daytime look #2:
- Top: AE Ahhmazingly Soft Flannel Boyfriend Shirt – $33.71 (on clearance now!!)
- Pants: AE Ne(x)t Level Jeggings in rip-repair black – $59.95
- Shoes: Mossimo Reese Nylon Slip On Sneakers from Target – $21.23 (on clearance now!)
The red in this flannel is alarmingly beautiful. The gal who made my Starbucks this morning told me she loved it, too! These pants totally rock – the distress is my favorite because you can’t see my white legs, but it’s still cool and interesting!
And lastly, some date night/evening inspiration (Look #3):
- Top: Velzera Gray Distressed Sweater Tunic from Zulily – $27.99
- Leggings: LuLaRoe black leggings $25
- Boots: I’m wearing my FAVORITE COWBOY BOOTS from like 4 seasons ago at DSW. Mine are Madden Girl (cheap and teeny-boppery but I can’t get enough) These are similar but are in brown ($44.98). These are my preferred substitution: Pink Dusty Wide Calf Cowboy Boot– ($59.95). Unfortunately, I can’t tell you about the comfort of the substitutions, and that is very important in cowboy boot consideration world. Anyway, This outfit is PERFECT for date night!
A few other notes about this one: The top is now sold out on Zulily, but click “notify me” and they’ll let you know when it comes back. As an alternative, I found it in another color HERE, (though I can’t vouch for the site), OR check out a couple of other similar options I liked: A cute chunky pullover and another awesome sweater (both from Amazon). For the leggings, which are SUPER SOFT AND AWESOME, find them with your local or online LuLaRoe consultant. I’m sure you know one unless you’ve been completely hiding under a rock for the last 3 years. (On second thought, they may find you there, too). I kid, I kid. Anyway, I love my LuLaRoe!
Okay guys, laugh with me at my poses! Ha! I learned a couple of things from building this post for you guys. 1. I find it really awkward to take pics of myself. I’ll get better at it, but I’m not much of a selfie girl. 2. I have GOT to get to work on my bedroom update!!!! Stay tuned for that! Since the nursery is finished, it’s time to think about the next project! Can’t wait.
Do any of you still shop at American Eagle? What’s your fav look here?

AM you are beautiful inside and out❤️Love your blogs and I’m thinking you might want to write a book someday !!! I enjoy your enlightening stories 👍
Janet – thank you so much!! I am so happy to hear that you’re reading and enjoying! The encouraging words mean a lot! I’m far from writing a book, but never say never! The good news is that I’m enjoying writing! It’s been a while! Thanks again! Love, AM 🙂
My son is your age and I’m a grandma but when I was pregnant I wore comfortable clothes. After my pregnancy, I vowed to continue to do so for the rest of my life and I have!
I really like your style & how you put it together.
DiAnne, Yes, I believe that your son’s child and my oldest are about the same age! All it takes is one pregnancy to realize that maternity clothes are fabulously comfortable and it is so hard to go back! It’s so nice that more companies are now making clothes “deceptively” comfortable. I wish they had done that more when you ladies were having your babes! It’s been a long time coming. I’m so glad that you’ve found a style that is comfortable and owned it! And thank you so much for reading. I appreciate it! Love, AM 🙂
Love these outfits!! I am probably headed to AE website now. Those tops are calling my name! Mind sharing your size in tops there to help a girl out?? I haven’t shopped there in a long time! Also…have you tried the old navy rockstar jeggings? They unashamedly have like a maternity style waist band! 😱 BUT they are so comfy and flattering and then you don’t get the little thing poking out of your shirt from the typical waistband. I have to size up one size in their rockstar style but #worthit.
Yes! Do it! And such great prices right now! I have a large in both of the AE tops. Good thing you asked, too, because the sizing has been real crazy lately with oversized looks becoming popular!! I also love several of the AE tunic sweatshirts but had to get mediums in those! And I tried an XL in the flannel but it was just a little too large.
I THOUGHT I had tried the Rockstar leggings, but what you are describing does not sound like what I put on!!! So will definitely have to look into that! They sound perfect!! Once again, thanks for being a part of my journey! XO! -AM 🙂
