Obsessions: Lipsense Edition + My 3 (other) BEST Beauty Hacks!
Well, hello, there goooorgeous!!! I am so glad you came to hang out today!
Let’s be real, here. I am LA-ZY when it comes to beauty. However, I prefer to not look like I just crawled out of bed, if possible (and def not always possible!). So today is alllll about my simple mom beauty hacks that I have learned over the last couple of years. Get excited!
FIRST, can we please start with my LIPSENSE OBSESSION? I’m not a consultant, have never been one, never WILL be one, not getting anything at all for saying this, but I am HOOKED on this stuff! It is perfect for moms who want to be glam, but will take no part in reapplying lip color during the day because #aintnobodygottimeforthat. One application will last me many hours. I would say 8 hours, on average. Plus, they’re so vivid that I always get a lot of compliments! The only downsides are 1. the time it takes to apply (you have to do 3 coats + gloss), which takes about 1-2 minutes total, so still not a deal-breaker, and 2. When it does start coming off, you better be all over that because your lips will look like they’re peeling off in Walking Dead fashion. Or the color on the inside of your lips wears off first, then it starts to look like you’re just wearing lipliner. Ha!
So anyway, I’m going to rank my top 5 favorite shades here. Disclaimer: I’m a pink girl. All the pink. Give it to me. Also, I have a cool skin undertone, but you could be warm or neutral, so make sure you check out what you are before you pick a shade you love! The party host will be able to tell you which shades work best with which undertones. Here the pic I used to help figure out my undertone:
And now for my top 5 shades!
1. Cor-a-lina – super pretty, bright coral
2. Heartbreaker – when I want less-bright pink, but still need some color!
3. Candy Cane – PERFECT for the holidays!
4. Rose Ice – another favorite – a perfect, vibrant pink (discontinued *boo hiss* TIP: check eBay!)
5. Fleur de lisa – a light pink (I wanted a color like Krystal from the Bachelor, and I wish I was kidding about that. Anyone know who I’m referring to?)
Check out a few of them on me:
And I’ll just rattle off the rest of the shades I have here in no particular order:
- Dark Pink – the name describes it well 🙂
- Luv It
- Fuchsia
- Aussie Rose
- Honey Rose
- Strawberry Shortcake
- Pomegranate
- Salmon
- Sugar Plum
- Fire N’ Ice
- Bombshell Diamond
- Plumeria
I also have several of the glitter glosses and the prism gloss – love them all! I prefer glitter gloss, even for everyday use, over the glossy gloss, but not everyone will.
So the next time a friend invites you to a LipSense Facebook party – go for it! You won’t regret it! If you don’t have a friend bugging you to join a party, I’m in THIS Facebook group – one of my best friend’s sisters runs it. She’s great and I know she’d love to have ya.
Tip: It is my opinion that you actually do not really need that “Oops remover.” I bought it and have Not. Used. It. Even. One. Time. But I do hear it’s good for removing the remainder of the color if it’s peeling off.
PS – just realized I have spent a LOT of money on LipSense!!!! I have all these on my list, plus glosses! Besides the few I won, it’s about $25/pop. Yikes.
Okay, moving on to my:
My 3 (Other) BEST Beauty Hacks!!!!!
1. Wear a small necklace that won’t annoy you and only take it off when you’re wearing something bigger and better that day.
I have this teensy weensy arrow necklace from Stella & Dot (I put it on my Gift Guide for New Moms because I love it so much)! I wear errrryday, allllll day (yes, even in the shower) unless I need something more substantial for a more dressed up look! But it’s short enough to not be annoying, and cute enough to add a little pizazz to even my most casual of looks. Stella & Dot also has some other cute designs that are similar. I’m sure there are TONS of other options out there for something comparable (and maybe cheaper). Just make sure it won’t tarnish since you’ll be sporting it all the time.
2. Use a highlighter on the inside of your eyes to brighten them up when you’re just too tired.
My husband and I renewed our vows last year. I was DETERMINED to do my own hair and makeup, because…budgeting. He was still in training and we were scraping by. So you’d better believe I was SCOURING YouTube for all of the best makeup tutorials. I found some favorites (HELLLOOOO Jacqueline Hill!!) who changed the way I do my day-to-day makeup routine. There were SO MANY gems in the videos I watched, but the one that stuck with me the most was using highlighter. I grabbed up this Tarte “Tarteist Pro Glow to Go” kit ($19) and use the middle highlighter color on the insides of my eyes. It instantly adds 2 hours of sleep to my face. Ha. I also spread a little just above my eyes onto my corner of my lids. If you’re better with makeup application, you’ll want to be more precise about where you place it, but I have found that for me, just dabbing with a small brush is perfect for the look I’m trying to achieve.
These pics don’t really do it justice, but it’s better, I promise. It’s worth a try, even if you’re one of those, like me, who lacks confidence in the makeup application department.
3. Learn to love hats (if you don’t already!)
Hats are fabulous. I probably don’t even have to tell you that. They are an easy addition to any casual outfit, and actually make your life EASIER because of less fussing with your hair. Duh. I love a great distressed military hat. I got mine at American Eagle a few years back, but this one is similar on Amazon ($18.99). One of my besties looks ah-mazing in her Patagonia trucker hat ($29), which is her favorite, and reasonably priced for such a great brand. Hats take some getting used to, but they quickly add a lot to a look! Do it!
Full disclosure – that thing I was talking about earlier, where the LipSense starts to wear off and look like lipliner, is happening in this pic! Haha!
Hopefully there’s little something in here today that will do a little something for you. I’m finally to a point after having my babes that I can start thinking about sprucing up a little bit, and it sure is fun!
I have new posts up on Tuesdays and Saturdays, so come back to see me soon!!! For more fun in between, follow me on Facebook or Instagram!
Coming up on Tuesday, I’ll be addressing incredibly difficult conversation about family planning during physician training. Eek! You won’t want to miss it! Until then – XO!
Honestly,
