Favorite Places: Nursery Edition!

Welcome to the FIRST EDITION of “Favorite Places!” Today I bring you… the NURSERY! There are so many reasons why I love this room, but mainly, because it was created out of love for our littlest gal!! It is also the only room we have really “designed” in our home so far! All of the other rooms so far have just received hand-me-down furnishings that were previously purchased for one of our old places. (Don’t fret – we will get to all of those super soon!!)

I was slightly nervous about my color scheme, being a less common turquoise and gold, but we previously used pink/gray and purple/yellow with the others and it was time for something more unique and not in-your-face feminine. In the end, there were enough products available to make it happen! Knowing that the rug colors would be the most difficult to match (and the rug would be the most difficult to return/exchange), that’s where I opted to start. Once I had the perfect rug IN the room, I could think about what would go well with it. We knew we wanted to do gray furniture, as the two bigs had dark furniture, and I’ve always wanted gray but it wouldn’t work in our previous home! Fortunately, Babies R’ Us had a pretty great sale and we snagged this crib, dresser, and changing topper. I’m not gonna lie, it was ROUGH getting it to our house, but I won’t even go on about that since Babies R’ Us is no more anyway. Luckily, I loved the set when it when it came and still do!!

Next, I have to dedicate an entire paragraph to this chair, Tarik Reclining Swivel Glider by Viv & Rae, which I found on Wayfair.com. Unfortunately, the exact chair is no longer available, but this one from Wayfair looks incredibly similar. Seriously, it is the PERFECT size, and is the most comfortable chair I have EVER owned. The material is insanely soft, and the cushioning is perfect. It reclines deeply. After having a more traditional nursing glider rocker that we got before our oldest was born, I CANNOT UNDERSTAND why those chairs are popular over actual recliners like this one. The rockers have a bulky ottoman and the darn armrest covers fall off incessantly, it’s silly, in my opinion. We still have our rocker, but I don’t look forward to a snuggle in it like I do with this chair! In fact, anyone need a rocker?!

Okay, so crib, dresser, rug, rocker…CHECK. Then I grabbed the changing pad cover, curtains, and the gold tassel tiebacks on Amazon! I got lucky that they all kind of match! They’re not my favorite turquoise shade in the room, but they work! Whew! I snatched up sheets on clearance at Babies R’ Us and Buy Buy Baby. The gold crib skirt was unfortunately not cheap, but you gotta have a good crib skirt, right?! I found it on Amazon unfortunately only the white version is available now!

Now for walls and finishing touches. I LOVE accent walls, so that was a MUST. My neighbor had a great idea about doing a gold glitter wall. OMG was that ever a project! (I will have to do a separate post on that sometime.) It turned out pretty well! Then we found some wall decor at Fred Meyer, Home Goods, and Hobby Lobby. My hubs spray painted three of the frames to match the gold sparkle mirror, and it tied in PERFECTLY with the gold glitter wall!! The focal point is a wooden monogram design from Etsy, which I bought unpainted so I could pick the perfect color. I painted that bad boy (6 months later 👏😬), and it tied everything together perfectly!

No baby’s room is complete without some kind of ceiling hanging, and I really wanted to put my heart into something for her room! So I used construction paper, fishing line, a metal ring, and some glue, and created the sparkly mobile above the chair. It cost me about $40 and 6 hours, and has significant imperfections, but at least it was a labor of love!

Then a diaper genie, a gorgeous throw from Wayfair (no longer available but this one is similar – Wayfair throw), and one last trip to Home Goods for the end table, pillows, and lamps, and we were done! Voila!

This room is everything I hoped it would be. A haven during those difficult first few months. A place we go for comfort when life around is hard. A calm in the storm. I hope she grows to love it.
