Make Giant Bubbles at Home!

Hey guys! It’s been a hot-minute, but I’m so, so glad that we’re all here!

The truth is, it’s going to be a bit tricky for me to pump out writing content during this school break. What’s more likely is that I’ll be sharing activities that ALSO keep my kids ocupado.

After all, it still works within my mission of bringing you ideas and inspiration, and my hope is that I can help keep you and your littles busy, too!

So, today, I’m bringing you this activity that our kids LOVED.

I repeat, LOVED.

It kept them wildly entertained for a whole morning, with the mixing of ingredients and then playing with the bubbles. And we all need ideas that will occupy some hours and get us outside during these crazy, unprecedented times, right?

What You’ll Need

To make the bubbles, I looked up several recipes and options, finally settling on this mixture.

SO SIMPLE.

  1. Bubble wands – ours are from Amazon and did the trick – linked HERE. Another option if they’re sold out is HERE. If you have smaller kids like our littlest, you may want to grab some easily-maneuverable wands, like THESE.
  2. 3 Gallon bucket (use a 5 gallon bucket if making a full batch)
  3. Dawn Dish Soap (has to be the blue kind because it apparently has some magical powers)
  4. J-Lube – guys, this is veterinarians lubricant. I had never heard of J-Lube before, and if I were you, I wouldn’t dig too deep into the other uses people have found for it. I found it on Amazon – linked HERE. I looked it up and it seems very safe for this use. I just made sure no one was guzzling the solution.
  5. Baking Powder
  6. Measuring tools (not sure why I included two measuring cups in this picture – we only used one).
  7. Spoon for stirring

Recipe:

(this makes a half-batch, which was perfect for over two hours of fun – simply double to make a full batch)!

  1. 1 1/2 cups Dawn Dish Soap (has to be the blue kind because it apparently has some magical powers)
  2. 1/2 Tablespoon J-Lube – found it on Amazon – linked HERE
  3. 1 1/2 Tablespoons Baking Powder
  4. 1 1/2 gallons warm/hot tap water

As far as mixing goes, I read you can combine the Dawn Dish soap and the J-lube first, then add the water one gallon at a time. Add baking powder last. Then let it sit overnight.

However, we literally poured everything into the bucket at nearly the same time, and let it sit for only 5 minutes before starting to make bubbles, and it seemed flawless to me. So take it or leave it but you’l probably be fine either way.

Then head outside and enjoy hours of fun! Hooray!

Oh, and GREAT NEWS – you’ll have so many ingredients left over that you can make it again AT LEAST 5 times! BO-NUS.

Thanks for joining me today, friends! ❤️❤️

I’d love to hear how it goes for you and what activities you are loving!!!
